LL9: Professional Implications

I have created a mind map concerning my God-given career after graduation. I would like to teach over at Fletcher Elementary School here in the Beaumont area. I have chosen this particular school because of the fact most majority of the children here are predominantly Hispanic. Most of these children come from Spanish-speaking homes where the children have to translate for the parents and/or other relatives. Some parents are bilingual in both Spanish and English and can help their children with their homework often times. However, the majority of families are not able to help their own kids with their homework due to the fact there is little to no English spoken or understood, most times both.

By knowing about both infant and toddler development, I have identified ways in which my profession benefits from it all are knowing when a child is babbling, cooing and other things. I also know when a child will go to anyone regardless as to who it is whether it be family members or not. My profession will benefit mostly in the area of speaking Spanish to Hispanic parents and their children. I had to at times interpret for those who did not speak the English language, especially when they would come sign-in and pick up their kids at the end of every day. I also had the opportunity of translating for students at the Beaumont Independent School District who were taking ESL (English as a Second Language). These opportunities in translating and interpreting for students on up to parents don't come everyday, but all I know is this: knowing another language will pay off in the long run for me. It's really not about the money for me and how much I will make doing this God-given job. The main point for me is making sure that Hispanic from all walks of life whether knowing English or not have everything they need and then more.
